Royal Mail Year Book
This annual publication showcases the specially commisioned stamps, and expands on the stories they tell. The approach was to create interest in the topics featured by employing a photo-essay inspired design, reminiscent of Sunday supplements of the 1970’s.
Being involved at every stage of the project, from commissioning photography and researching infographics, allowed the design to influence how the stories were told. The aim was to create an exciting and informative read, which would stimulate further interest in astronomy, engineering and inventions, as well as the Great British seaside.
Commissioning photographer Phil Sayer to shoot the dramatic opening spreads of each feature, created a contrast to the fact-rich text. The decision to employ a monochrome palate was to enable the colours of the stamps to jump out, and provide a colourful ending to each section.
